What you DON’T do:
- Clean your gold-plated piece with one of the silver polishing cloths.
- Take it through an intense workout where you’re gripping exercise equipment like your life depends on it.
- Grip your tools at work.
- Spray or rub your perfumes and lotions onto their surfaces.
- Wear them through sports.
- Throw your ring on the ground in frustration because you lost at said sport.
- Use them as knuckle dusters against the victors.
- Take your ring for a nice dip in the cold water so it slips off your shrivelled finger. Then, you and twenty others search for several hours before giving up. Then, your friend calls a metal detecting service and, $200 later, they find it in five minutes. Then you’re on the morning news because all this happened to your wedding ring the day after your wedding.
What is tarnishing and what causes it?
- Tarnish is a chemical change on the jewellery’s surface - not dirt. The metal reacts with sulfur, oxygen or moisture in its environment and produces a thin layer of discolouration. The most common things we’ve found that cause this are air pollution or coastal environments.
How do I store my jewellery?
- You should keep them in a cool, dark place that is dry. Even better, store them individually in air-tight bags.
How do I use the polishing cloth?
- Gently rub the surface of your piece with the polishing cloth. Never wash the polishing cloth as it will lose its effectiveness, and keep out of reach of children. Do not use it on gold vermeil.
Can I wear my jewellery in the water?
- You certainly can, however to prolong the life of your jewellery, we recommend removing it before swimming, showering, or dipping in the ocean. We also recommend against allowing lotions or perfumes to touch their surface. Treat your piece gently, and it’ll remain as enduring as the story it carries.
Can I have my jewellery re-plated or refurbished?
- Currently we do not offer this service, however we are looking to provide this for you in the future.
